Poem Every Day ’18 // Week 1

Another year, another 30 poems – all written within the month of April. One poem every day for an entire month. This is the third year I’ve participated and the second year I will be completing. If you don’t follow me over on Instagram – here’s the roundup so far!

PED01 // Prologue // Prompt: Prologue

Unfolding the origami of my soul
Unraveling the truth of all that I am
A song birthed beyond the stars

Penned in ink of crimson blood
Recorded in the halls of life itself
A symphony born before the sun

Tonight my beginning is expelled from these lungs
The prologue to my own death
Is whispered here, now, in this very breath

PED02 // Stranger // Prompt: Stranger

Rewalking the miles
Of kindness in your eyes
Every step forward
I’m scared I’ll find
That we were only lovers
Inside my mind

PED03 // Exiled Love // Prompt: Exile

Heart
Exposed
The fabric of you
Ripped away

Soul
Betrayed
The fabric of me
Ripped apart

Bleeding out
This
exiled
love

PED04 // Legacy // Prompt: Sprout

self lost is hope found
tireless mercy
emerging boundless love
engulfing boneless ambitions

hope found is wonder known
sleepless mystery
awakening freedom song
alighting fury chains

the end of all
lost and found
ablaze
my legacy in stone

PED05 // Ceaseless Thought // Prompt: Dropped

Infinite vortex of ceaseless thought

My heart
A shield
A barricade
Deflecting

My mind
A magnetic field
A land mine
Detonating

The aftermath
Of ash
Dropped into
My lungs

Burning breath
Words never to escape
Lost in the rubble of an
Infinite vortex of ceaseless thought

PED06 // Façade // Prompt: Hollow

What
If
All
We
Dreamed
Lay
Beyond
The
Stars
Was
A
Façade
Made
To
Fill
The
Void
Of
Hollow
Hearts
?

PED07 // Never Adding Up // Prompt: Community

Two + One + One

None of this

None of any bit of this

Adds up

By all means

We make no sense

And yet

Here we are

Independently

Dependent on

Our codependence

This is our community.

Friday films

Fits of laughter

Messy conversations

Midnight cries

Friendship grown

Into family chosen

This is us

By all means

We make no sense

And yet

We’re still here

Growing.
